The Pale Blue Dot
This is our home. Earth from 4 billion miles (Voyager 1991).
This is here. This is us. On it every one you ever heard of. Every human being who has ever lived. All our joys and sufferings. Thousands of confident religions and ideologies. Every hero. Every coward. Every creator and destroyer. Every monarchy, every peasant. Every couple in love. Every father and mother. Every inventor. Every explorer in the history of our species. Lived there. On a mote of dust. Orbiting this single star. Think of the rivers of blood. The endless cruelties. How fervent our hatred. How eager we are to kill. Our posturing. Our imagined self importance. The delusion that the universe revolves around us are challenged by this point of pale light. In our obscurity. In all this vastness. Who will come to save us from ourselves? God? There is no better demonstration of the folly of human conceit than this distant image of our tiny world suspended in a sunbeam. We have it within us to stop the destruction, preserve our environment and cherish.
This pale blue dot. The only home we've ever known.
Carl Sagan says: "If we are not able to ask skeptical questions to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority then we are up for grabs."
Think about it!
